Almost everyone who follows social media can’t believe that a woman ran a 5:35-minute mile. That’s five minutes and 35 seconds if you’re unfamiliar with the terms of the runner’s world.Running a mile at that speed is an accomplishment for anyone, but what makes this woman’s feat even more impressive is that she is nine months pregnant.Five days ago, a TikTok user named Mike Myler shared a video of his wife, 28-year-old Makenna Myler. In the video, Makenna runs a mile in less than five minutes.
In an interview with BuzzFeed, Makenna confirmed the time was accurate and legitimate. She also said she has been running five to six times per week throughout her pregnancy.Dedicated runner, the woman says that she has “cut back on my mileage a lot and have been running much slower,” but she has been extremely careful with her strength training workouts in order to avoid injury from the added weight of pregnancy and her pelvic shift.Makenna loves to run and was worried that pregnancy might affect that love. Her husband therefore offered her a bet.
Mike said he would give his wife $100 if she were able to run a mile under eight minutes while nine months pregnant. However, before she became pregnant, Makenna was able to run a mile in about seven minutes.Her pregnancy running game is better than before pregnancy, which is amazing. The TikTok video posted by Mike has been viewed more than 3.4 million times in the first five days it has been up.Makenna explained in the BuzzFeed interview that her first doctor encouraged her because he dealt with elite athletes. Commenters expressed astonishment over Makenna’s achievement.
According to Makenna, the ultrasound showed a perfectly healthy baby. The U.K.’s National Health Service recommends that women continue exercising after becoming pregnant, with the exception of scuba diving.
