Kelly Healey became Britain’s youngest grandmother at the age of 16 when she gave birth to her daughter Skye Salter. Her grandson Bailey was born in August 2018 when she was 30 years old.
Skye Salter did not know she was pregnant until she was 36 weeks along. A few days earlier, she had just finished a PE lesson and had just taken a digital test.
When Kelly learned the news, she chose not to reprimand her daughter about contraception unnecessarily.
In my twenties, I never imagined being a mother. However, ranting about contraception to Skye was pointless. She told The Sun about what had to be done. “I could only offer my love and support.”. As a mother, you deal with these issues.”
“I act like I’m in my twenties, so being a grandmother doesn’t feel natural.”
It amuses my friends that I have a grandson. He is often mistaken for my son.”
Skye lived with her stepmother and father in Cranford, West London, in 2018. When she was 14, she went for a digital test as a precaution because she was sexually active and wanted a contraceptive implant.
However, as soon as she learned of her pregnancy, she went to West Middlesex Hospital for an ultrasound, where she learned she was over 36 weeks pregnant.
“I was shocked. I offered the pregnancy test because I suspected I was pregnant. Skye, who is now 17 years old, recalls that his father is a local lad about my age.
Since my periods were always up and down, I didn’t think much about missing them.
“I couldn’t believe what I heard. I was just a few days away from becoming a mother. A few weeks earlier, I had done PE and climbed hills.”
Since I learned I was pregnant so late, abortion was out of the question. I couldn’t have done it anyway. As I watched my baby’s heartbeat on the monitor, I was filled with joy. After that, I knew I would always come in second and my newborn boy would always come in first.” She oohed over her firstborn.
Kelly, on the other hand, claimed that she does not feel like a grandmother because she still behaves like a child. Her friends find the situation “hilarious,” and her mother agrees.
It also made her mum Britain’s youngest great-grandmother!
In October 2021, Gemma Skinner of Bucks held the record when her 17-year-old daughter gave birth to a baby girl while she was 33.
