The truth about why all jeans have a small pocket inside the front pocket will surprise you
We’ve been wondering. However hard we tried to think of a practical use for this small pocket, we couldn’t come up with anything. There’s no room for a cellphone in there, and it’s not suitable for storing bills or small money. What about the keys? You’re kidding, you’ll never get the key back out.
The Independent claims to have the answer to the eternal question – and it’s probably not what you think.
You’ve probably wondered about it from time to time. All jeans have two front pockets and two back pockets, regardless of whether they’re men’s or women’s models. They also have that little pocket inside one of the front pockets. But why is it there?
To find the origins, we have to go back almost two hundred years. That tiny pocket isn’t a modern addition to jeans; rather, it served as a practical solution to a problem that no longer exists.
Levi’s, the legendary jean manufacturer, is behind the invention.
The Independent reports that the first ‘extra’ pocket was used in the 1800s. What was the reason? For the most common wearers of jeans at the time … cowboys.
Cowboys would ride with their small pocket watches tied to a strap or inside their coats, but these methods caused the watches to fall and break. Levi’s created jeans with a small pocket designed to protect the pocket watch. With the clock in their pockets, the cowboys could ride without worrying if the clock would break. Clever!
I didn’t know that myself. It is pretty amazing that the design has persisted up until today. Cowboys may not be around, but their watch pockets certainly are!
Tell your friends about this story, so they can learn the truth, too. I’m sure they’ve wondered the same thing!

I ALWAYS REFERRED TO IT AS A WATCH POCKET!
Thought that was for what I cleared after taxes.
