You never forget your first true love, and that certainly applies to Army veteran K.T. Robbins. While stationed in northeastern France during World War II, K.T., then 24, fell in love with 18-year-old Jeannine Ganaye.
They finally met again after 75 years, and told each other that their love had never faded.
Jeannine fell in love with K.T while he was fighting in northern France. After meeting her, he had to say a quick goodbye before being called up to fight on the Eastern Front.
Despite his promise to come back and get her, circumstances forced him to return to America and resume his life. Jeannine Ganaye, now Pierson, moved on with her life while secretly hoping her true love would return; she even took English lessons in preparation for her return.
It was clear from their reunion that their love for each other had never faded after 75 years apart.
A French television station flew K.T. to France for the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion on the beaches of Normandy.
“You never left my heart”
The 97-year-old K.T. is told on the plane that Jeannine had been found and he would meet her in her French retirement home.
“I always loved you,” K.T. said during their emotional reunion. “You never left my heart.”
“He said he loves me…I understood that much,” Jeannine said in French to reporters, according to TODAY.
