Blended families can struggle with treating all kids equally, and that’s exactly what happened to Madison’s family. Her husband made a surprising decision that left her daughter feeling left out, and the situation only got worse when they returned from their trip. Here’s Madison’s story:
Madison’s Dilemma: “My 16-year-old stepson wanted to bring his new girlfriend on our family trip to Spain. My husband agreed but said we could only afford four tickets, so he suggested leaving my 18-year-old daughter at home.
I was furious and couldn’t believe he would choose a stranger over his own stepdaughter, whom he’s helped raise since she was 7.
He argued back, saying, ‘That stranger is our son’s guest. Plus, you forget that your daughter’s dad never helps pay for her vacations. Maybe it’s time he did.’ I felt stuck and didn’t know what to do.
In the end, we left for Spain without my daughter because I knew her biological dad couldn’t afford the trip.
When we came back, we were shocked to find that my daughter had packed up and moved in with her father.
She blames me for not standing up for her, and I’m heartbroken. I can’t believe how cruel my husband was, and now I’m left to deal with this mess.
What should I do?”
