When you get married, you think you know everything about your partner. But one woman, Angela, recently made a shocking discovery that left her questioning her marriage. After finding her husband’s diary, she came across some disturbing entries, leading her to wonder if she should leave him.
Warning Signs at the Start
Angela, 33, shared her story in a letter asking for advice. She explained that she and her husband, Andrew, have been married for 5 years, but they’ve known each other for 10 years and dated for 3 before getting married.
Their relationship started with a red flag she ignored. When Andrew proposed, he gave her a very cheap ring, which was surprising since he had a good income and used to spoil her with expensive gifts. When Angela showed a bit of disappointment, Andrew said, “Material things don’t matter. You can’t take them with you when you die. What matters is how I feel about you.”
Angela felt uneasy with this sudden change in his behavior, but she didn’t let it bother her too much. She chose to focus on being happy with him and moved forward with the marriage.
A Troubling Discovery
For five years, Angela and Andrew had what seemed like a happy marriage. Andrew kept a diary, but Angela never read it—until one day, after an argument, her gut told her to take a look. What she found inside shocked her.
“I read his diary and discovered that Andrew wrote he hated me multiple times,” Angela said. “He even wrote that when I was sick, he wished I would die.”
Angela explained that they had recently gone through a tough time in their marriage, but she thought they were working through it. She never felt scared or worried during that period. However, finding those words in Andrew’s diary left her feeling heartbroken.
Leaving Her Husband
The diary entries haunted Angela. She decided to leave the house, taking their daughter with her, and moved in with a friend. She also took photos of the diary pages as proof.
“I told him I needed some space after our fight,” Angela explained. “I’ve already talked to my therapist and even reached out to a lawyer.”
But after she left, Andrew sent her loving messages, telling her he understood she needed space and that bumps in the road are normal in a marriage. His kind words left Angela feeling confused about whether she made the right choice.
Second-Guessing Herself
Angela said that while she was sure their relationship was over when she first read the diary, Andrew’s messages made her start to question her decision. “I’m not sure what to do,” she wrote. “I felt like our marriage was falling apart, but now I’m second-guessing everything.”
Trying to Rebuild Trust
After a few days of talking over messages, Andrew asked Angela if they could meet in person. Hesitant at first, Angela eventually agreed, hoping to find some clarity. They met at a quiet café to talk things over.
“He seemed genuinely concerned,” Angela shared. “He told me he missed me and our daughter. He said he regretted writing those things in his diary and never meant for me to find them.”
After hours of talking, they decided to give their marriage another try. They agreed to start family therapy to work on their issues and rebuild trust.
“It’s going to be a long road,” Angela said. “But we’re willing to try and make it work for our family.”
