Some love can go a long way, and it can be all it takes to turn a timid puppy into an affectionate, trusting companion. As an example, Sam Clarence adopted Stanley from a bully breed rescue in Christchurch, New Zealand. The puppy was discovered as a stray when he was barely six months old, living with his sister and mother on an abandoned property.
The local shelter asked Clarence, who works as a dog walker, to foster one of the puppies. Little did he know that this little creature would become his most devoted companion. Clarence and Stanley fell in love at first sight, but Stanley was unlucky. It took him an hour to get out of the car because he was afraid.
Clarence stayed with him throughout, assisting him to adjust to his new situation and living quarters. He had earned his trust to the point where they were no longer touching.
As Stanley lay behind Clarence, he would always have at least one paw touching his back. Whenever they go on a road trip, the dog makes sure to keep one paw on him at all times. Stanley follows Clarence wherever he goes. Stanley is an extremely affectionate dog who exhibits it constantly.
Stanley is no longer scared or shy. Clarence is ecstatic over his new life and the attention he is receiving. A fearful, timid puppy, this dog has grown into a sociable, outgoing “Velcro dog.” He loves everyone, including other dogs.
