As NICU nurses, taking advantage of these small moments is very exciting and heartwarming.Riverside Regional Medical Center in Virginia chose to celebrate Easter this year in an egg-cellent way.The RRMC reported that this week, health care staff dressed their patients in bunny ear caps, cottontail bottoms, and stuffed knit carrots to bring smiles to the NICU.
NICU nurse Kaylee Arsenault told PEOPLE, “It’s so exciting and uplifting for us as NICU nurses to capture these moments around the holidays for our precious moms and families.”
Two sets of twins arrived just in time for a “happy” Easter.
This year was especially satisfying since we were able to reunite the twins. “Twins in need of NICU care are often separated after birth because they must be housed in different incubators,” Arsenault continues. “These little ones are doing well and have remained stable, allowing them to be brought together for the first time since they were still inside their mother. Lifelong best friends!”””
Dressing up the NICU patients for the holidays has become a tradition at the Virginia hospital. Newborn babies were dressed up in turkey costumes by nurses in November.
Among the charming ensembles, there was a brown knit cap with a set of eyes, an orange beak, and bright feathers, as well as a brown knit bottom with feathers attached to the back.
