Almost a month have passed since a teacher at the school of his bi-racial daughter cut the 7-year-old’s hair without his permission.
Jimmy Hoffmeyer said his daughter returned home from school on March 24 in tears and told him a teacher cut her hair.
In Mount Pleasant, Michigan, a father said that his daughter received three haircuts in the course of a week. However, the last one performed by a teacher left her inconsolable.
The kind of hair we have, you can’t just wet it down and cut it, so once they saw the outcome, they should have said, “Yeah, we screwed up,” he told ABC12 News.
“We should probably contact him and let him know what just happened,” he said.
Hofmeyer says his daughter Jurnee got three haircuts that week, the first by another student.
I chalked it up since it was a child and it is obvious that you don’t think about any major consequences having to do with a child,” Hoffmeyer told reporters.
His 7 year old child, who had left the house that morning with long hair, was taken to a salon by his father to have it tidied up by a professional.

As a result, we took her to a salon to get an asymmetrical haircut, he said. It was a little short here, but she was talking about her shoulders on this side for quite a while.”
The next day she returned home from school in tears, saying a teacher had cut her hair.
She was so embarrassed after that teacher cut her hair that she was in tears. She was so embarrassed. She had to go back to class as soon as she was able,” Hoffmeyer said.
Several times, he contacted the school to find out exactly what happened and why a teacher would have cut his child’s hair at school without his permission. So far, however, he hasn’t received any answers from the school.
As far as Hoffmann says, the school has apologized, but those in charge are refusing to show him any video footage of the incident, either in the bus or at the school.
“I would like them to take responsibility for their behavior,” he said. Like, we’ve been asking for a public apology for the most part to let Jurnee know that they really do acknowledge that it was wrong, and that it shouldn’t have been done to her, and that she should’ve never had to go through something like that.
As a result, Jurnee is now enrolled at a new school, and her dad plans to attend a school board meeting to try to find out what exactly happened to his daughter that day.
It’s illegal to cut a child’s hair without their parent’s permission, and I’m amazed that the school is being so secretive about it; the father deserves answers.
Jurnee’s distressing experience won’t last long.
Let’s share.
