Jay and Sarah from Minnesota put a baby monitor in their 3-year-old son’s room like most parents. In 2015, the 3-year-old told me he was scared, and that someone was talking to him over the phone at night. Although they had no idea what he was talking about, the parents decided to check the baby monitor’s activity.
Jay and Sarah discovered something absolutely terrifying. A couple went public with their story – that a stranger h.a.c.k.e.d into their baby monitor, was spying on their son, and said disturbing things to him at night. Jay and Sarah heard a voice on the monitor say, “Wake up little boy, Daddy’s looking for you.” When Sarah walked into the room, Jay heard the voice say, “Look, someone’s coming.” The monitor also moved, even when they weren’t controlling it.
When the couple became frightened, they contacted the monitor’s maker, and they learned that a hacker could indeed control the baby monitor with a smartphone or laptop. There was however no way to know who or where the h-a-c-k-e-r lived! And apparently, this type of c.r.i.m-e is becoming more common since newer baby monitors come with internet connection, making it easier for c-r-i-m-i-n-a-l-s to h.a.c.k into the system.
