There has been a time in the life of most moms when they have been in Britney Tankersley’s shoes.
The time is 8 p.m. during a school night in Foley, Alabama, when Myles suddenly demands something from his mother. The next day, Myles’s school had a Twin Day planned, and he was determined to get matching shirts for him and Tanner.

“He kept talking about how they looked the same,” Britney said. “‘We both have brown eyes, we both have dark hair,’ he said adamantly … so I headed to Walmart and I was annoyed. It’s too late, I think. It’s too late for me.”
Eventually, Britney found two matching flannel shirts that said “Future Leader.”. The shirts were the same size and she hoped for the best. Myles proudly wore his new shirt to school the next day, tucking a second shirt into his backpack for Tanner.
Britney asked Tanner’s teacher to take a picture so she could see the uncanny resemblance her son kept mentioning. She couldn’t hold back her tears when she saw the picture later that day.

Britney said she was crying because it was so sweet. “Obviously, they don’t look alike at all. But he didn’t see that, you know? The picture I expected was of another white child with light skin and brown hair, but I didn’t get it. I said, “That is the sweetest thing in the world.”.”
The photo of Myles and Tanner went viral after Britney shared it on Facebook, praising her son for being “colorblind.” Britney hopes the image will help others see the bigger picture. In truth, her son does not see any difference between how he looks and how his best friend looks. In spite of Tanner’s outward appearance, he saw the kindred spirit he is inside!

There are certainly times when children lead the way! Many of the world’s deepest wounds could finally be healed if we thought more like Myles and realized c.o.l.o.r is only s.k.i.n-d.e.e.p. We should all strive to achieve this child’s pure world view in our own daily lives.
