9-year-old boy afraid to ‘lose’ sister gives emotional wedding speech that made everyone cry

During his big sister’s wedding in 2021, a nine-year-old boy touched millions of hearts with a short, yet touching speech.

At the wedding reception of his sister, Catie, and Troy Hudson, Gus Bower couldn’t help but shed tears.

After the wedding videographer shared a clip of Gus’ emotional speech online, the boy’s tribute to the couple went viral. In the video, the youngster can be seen standing on stage holding a microphone as he addresses the newlyweds.

I’m so happy you got married today. As Gus began to cry, he said: “I know I might seem sad up here, but these are tears of joy.”.

Continuing, he said, “Catie, I love you so much and I’m glad you gave me a brother-in-law.”

Catie embraced her brother tightly after the speech. When Troy heard Gus’ touching words, he couldn’t help but cry.

“It wasn’t something we were prepared to hear, emotionally,” he said.

It’s just like, ‘I’m doing what I want to do.'” Catie remembered Gus’ special moment.

Gus hadn’t planned on giving a speech, but he couldn’t stop himself from expressing his raw emotions in the moment.

A wedding ceremony just had something special about it, he said.

“It’s just like magic. “Most of my worries about them just kinda went away,” Gus said.

The half-siblings Catie and Gus share a very close relationship, despite their nearly 20-year age gap.

Over the years, Catie has shared tons of photos of Gus on her Instagram account.

Catie described her brother as the “sweetest, smartest, and cutest” kid she knew on his third birthday in 2015.

The sweetest, smartest, and cutest kid I know turns three today! In the caption of the photo, she wrote, “You are the best little brother ever.”.

She wrote, “If this isn’t the cutest thing you have ever seen, then you’re lying.”

Having met when they were still kids—before Gus even existed—Catie and Troy had known each other for decades.

During their studies at the University of Denver, the pair were friends for years before starting a relationship in February 2014.

After going under contract on their first home, Troy proposed to Catie in June 2019.

As any protective brother should be, Gus was concerned when he learned of his sister’s engagement.

In an interview with CBS News, he said he was concerned that she wouldn’t spend as much time with him as she used to. “I didn’t want to lose her in that way, so it was really stressful.”

Over the years, Gus grew to love Troy, and he discovered that he was a decent man. Also, he knew he would make a great husband for Catie.

His story should serve as a reminder to never let the word “extended” overshadow the word “family.”

“Don’t let that separate you because you deeply love them and they deeply love you,” he said.

It is rare for kids his age to display Gus’ level of emotional intelligence. The eloquence and sincerity with which he expressed himself is incredible.
