When a homeless man was captured celebrating a special day with his only companions, his dogs, despite his lack of material things and a more comfortable place to do so, his life changed forever.
There are many ways to be happy. Seeing one of his pets celebrate their birthday in his own simple way filled the heart of Choko José Luis Matos, a homeless man in Bucaramanga, Colombia. Shaggy and Nenna are two of Choko’s dogs.
Initially, it would not appear that they were celebrating anything special. As long as the dogs wore party hats, the bystander who recorded the video knew it was going to be an unusually heartwarming encounter.
Choko, the homeless man, pulled a birthday cake from his bag after putting a party hat on one of the dogs. It would have cost so much to buy a birthday cake for someone who didn’t seem to have anything but himself.
Even so, he threw Shaggy at a birthday celebration despite his unfortunate predicament. A quaint Happy Birthday song was then sung for his dogs by Choko as he stacked up some candles on the cake he bought.
Petting his two dogs and kissing their cheeks, Choko sliced the cake for himself and his four-legged companions. As he munched on the birthday cake he must have worked so hard to buy, the dog owner was moved to tears and tried to hold back his tears.
A bystander approached Choko after the touching moment and asked him what had happened to them and his dogs. Their previous experiences have been heartbreaking, to their surprise.

Choko escaped from his home, where he was abused. With his two dogs, Shaggy and Nenna, Choko spends his remaining days on the road, homeless, and traveling with his two dogs. Since then, Choko has only had two dogs, and he promised to take good care of them since they are the only remaining family he has.
In Colombia and around the world, users responded to the bystander’s video with teary-eyed reactions and praises. People have been inspired by Choko’s actions towards his pets to send donations that have enabled them to live a more peaceful life.
“I was never alone during my many years living on the street. The dogs have always brought joy to my sad days, and now together we are going to help many who need us!!! According to Choko.
Someone even gifted Choko a new phone, which gave him the chance to start up his own Instagram page where he shares pictures and videos of himself, Shaggy, and Nenna. There are already more than 170,000 followers on Choko’s page.

It has become a gathering place for animal lovers in the area since they were filmed there at the time. Choko, the hero who saved his dogs from abuse, has expressed his desire to set up an animal shelter to help other people and pups who are in need.
