A Maryland mom was arrested after her 4-year-old child called 911 while waiting unsupervised for her in a hot car.
She had been shopping at a mall in St. Charles, Maryland. She left seven children in her hot car while she went shopping. She reportedly told the kids not to leave the vehicle, even though the doors were unlocked. Windows were rolled up. While temperatures were around 80 degrees F, the kids ranging in age from 2 years old to 4 years old waited in the car for at least 20 minutes.
Finally, a 4-year-old boy used a phone in his car to call 911. Officers arrived and released the children. They were all “scared” and “sweaty.” and received appropriate medical treatment on the scene.
It is against the law to leave a child under the age of 8 alone in a motor vehicle unless a responsible adult at least 13 years old remains with the child, according to the Charles County sheriff’s office. “It can also be dangerous to leave anyone inside a motor vehicle, including pets, especially as the temperatures increase outside. They added that the temperature inside a parked car can quickly rise to extremely high levels in a short period of time.
About 10 minutes after the police arrived, the woman arrived. She was also charged with confinement of children in a motor vehicle.
