Imagine getting married to the person you love. Your big day has finally arrived, and you’re wearing your wedding dress at the altar. Unlike any other traditional ceremony, you’ve decided to read your husband’s text messages as your vows.
Body + Soul published this story in August 2020. The story began with a woman named Casey, who was ecstatic to get married to her fiancé Alex. She had been with him for six years, and he was the one she loved.
After receiving an anonymous text, she discovered that her soon-to-be husband was cheating on her.
As Casey looked at her friends and family in front of her, they all had smiles on their faces and were excited for her wedding.
“Everyone was going to witness the end of my dream relationship,” she said.
When Casey and her best friends were hanging out in a “glitzy hotel room” the night before the wedding, she received the message.
A series of screenshots from an unknown number was sent instead of a text wishing her luck or congratulating her on her wedding.
Besides the images, there was a message that read: “I wouldn’t marry him.” Will you?”
Screenshots included her fiancé’s conversation with another woman, as well as selfies. Compared to her, the unknown woman had dark hair and olive skin, while she had blonde hair and fair skin.
The messages were dated months and even days before Casey’s wedding, and she couldn’t believe what she was reading.
“Every word was like a dagger in my heart just hours before my wedding. When everyone had already travelled and everything was paid for, how could I cancel? ” she said.
She was livid as all of her friends threatened him with violence. She was too shocked and sad to be angry, so she chose not to contact Alex and call off the wedding.
In her dream dress, the woman started walking down the aisle at the wedding ceremony.
Taking a deep breath, she stood up in front of our friends and our parents and told them the truth about Alex.
She explained to the crowd that the man she loved was not who she thought he was. After the revelation, the groom attempted to grab her hand, but as she put down her bouquet, she revealed the phone in her hand where she read messages from the anonymous number.
Alex, too, was stunned by what had happened and did not say a word. As his best man followed him, he left the venue. Also “horrified” was his family.
A few moments later, she faced the guests and told them there would be no reception, but rather a celebration of “honesty, finding true love, and following your heart no matter what.”
